WHAT IS NLP?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a way of studying how people excel in any field and teaching these patterns to others. It is the study of what makes the difference between the excellent and the average, also has very useful techniques for the wider world.

NLP shows you how to understand your behaviours and model your own success. It is a way of bringing out the best in yourself and a deeper understanding of why you do things, for example, why do you always seem to get so far with a diet before you “fall off the wagon” or why it is so hard to carry on with an exercise routine? What do people who succeed at these things do, to make it happen?

I like to use NLP with my clients as it really helps them focus on what they want to achieve and see the results from that. I like to encourage them to set small goals that they can achieve along the way to a larger goal. This keeps them focuses and helps them see what they can change.


If NLP was a 3 minute seminar, the teacher would walk in the room and say “to be successful in life you need to remember 3 things”.

OUTCOMES

Know what you want. Have a clear idea of your outcome in any situation.

If you do not know what your goal is, how can you achieve it? Having a goal to work towards give you focus and direction.

ACUITY

Be alert and keep your senses open so that you notice what you are getting.

It’s easy to focus on what isn’t working, rather than how far you have come from where you began. Notice what is working and what isn’t.

FLEXIBILITY

Have the flexibility to keep changing what you do until you get what you want.

Sometimes things don’t go to plan, if this happens, adapt the plan so it fits back in to your goal. It may be a longer way round but you will get there.

Something to remember is this: If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got. If what you are doing is not working, do something else.
